Exercise-induced breathing difficulty Treatment
Your personalized exercise-induced breathing difficulty treatment session will include:
Development of personal goals related to your breathing function
Development and implementation of a personalized treatment plan to optimize your breathing function
Counseling and education regarding vocal health & hygiene, anatomy & physiology of the voice mechanism, and how to optimize your breathing
Practice of optimized breathing techniques and rescue breathing strategies in functional contexts
Treatment Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
NOTE: For athletes with exercise-induced breathing difficulties, therapy sessions are preferably completed where exercise can be performed: a park, track, gym or swimming pool. We are happy to coordinate treatment sessions with your coach to assist you in your recovery process. These services are best completed in-person, but can be modified to telehealth if necessary.
Each personalized Exercise-Induced Breathing Difficulty Evaluation includes:
Extensive review of medical/clinical records to determine potential impact of medications and treatment of other medical diagnoses on respiratory and laryngeal function
Aerodynamic evaluation
Respiration, posture, and muscle tension evaluation at rest
Respiration, posture, and muscle tension evaluation during exertion
Provocation testing
Stimulability testing
Assessment
Goal building
Recommendations/Plan of care
Identification of need for referrals to other services or professionals to support optimal respiratory outcomes
Counseling, education, and training to the client, health care providers, and caregivers
Detailed written evaluation outlining findings and recommendations
Exercise-Induced Breathing Difficulty Evaluations are 50 minutes in length and can be scheduled in-person or via tele-practice.
Note: It is recommended that you wear tennis shoes and clothing that you can comfortably move in for this evaluation.
